September Update

Hey everyone.

September has been a bit of a hectic month!

Earlier in the month we had a problem with our database. A lot of people tried to log on to the website at one time, causing our website to crash, this was traffic that we just weren’t prepared for! We’re well on the way to fixing that now.

We also noticed there was an abundance of missing DOS protection so we began looking at implementation of upgrades across the platform to minimise the action against the platform's back end architecture.

To achieve this we explored and implemented basic versioning of:
  • Addition of pagination for posts and recipes in the feed and explore page
  • Addition of image and content caching, with session storage for those users who have already visited the platform
  • Changes to minor styling to match platform standards (squared login and register button to match platform)
  • Removed the search bar for public access i.e in the explore page
  • Styling to truncate the text better on shrunken posts
  • Pop up share for public, share and love for those who are logged in

You may have also noticed that we’ve started to get more content on the explore page. We have a few alpha testers who are working behind the scenes to help us test out Bytes and find any bugs as we go, but they are also bringing those of you who are viewing this some yummy, tasty recipes to try out in the meantime.
